Electro-acoustic composition
Toc~ is a piece for percussion, live electronics, and fixed media. It was made on the occasion of the solo exhibition of Giuseppe Penone, an exponent of Italian Arte Povera who focuses his research on materials such as iron and especially wood. It was thus decided to use these two materials for the composition.
The percussive instrument consists of a piece of wood, pierced by a metal wedge. The sound is processed in real-time by algorithms that process and record the signal. The pre-designed soundscape was created by way of sonification of the grain of one of the faces of the piece of wood using a IanniX graphical sequencer. An additional electronically controlled instrument is inspired by the idea of “wind-chimes”. Currently still in development, it is a wooden machine that uses a potentiometer and a stepper motor to control the pendants.
